How to Store Sports Cards Long Term

Cards are paper. Archivists recommend keeping paper cool, dry, stable, and out of light; avoid attics, basements, and damp places (Library of Congress; National Archives).

Use plastics that are archival-safe (polypropylene, polyester, polyethylene); avoid PVC, which the Library of Congress warns against (LOC).
Store boxes upright, not stacked under heavy weight.
Keep out of direct sunlight to limit fading.
